Thirsty for Thankfulness: Day #10

       Thirsty for Thankfulness: Day #10

"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom..."

We are beginning today with where we ended yesterday, and it is also a verse that has confused me in the past. Psalm 111:10a states, "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom..." Fear. Fear?

When researching this, a better understanding can be developed. Fear, not as in frightened by, but fear, as in reverence for or a deep respect for or in awe of.

God is our Creator and He wants a loving, nurturing relationship with each and every one of us. While desiring that deep relationship with each of us, God is still the Almighty God, and our Maker is truly worthy of respect.

Our routine:
  • Sit down together.
  • Enjoy the cup of blessing that can be provided by a good dose of Scripture.
  • Stay and linger with our Creator as we reflect on our blessings as revealed in the words we read each day.
  • Close with words of prayer to help deepen our relationship with Almighty God.
Scripture:

Psalm 96
"Sing to the LORD a new song;
sing to the LORD, all the earth.
Sing to the LORD, praise his name;
proclaim his salvation day after day.
Declare his glory among the nations,
his marvelous deeds among all peoples.

For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise;
he is to be feared above all gods.
For all the gods of the nations are idols,
but the LORD made the heavens.
Splendor and majesty are before him;
strength and glory are in his sanctuary.

Ascribe to the LORD, O families of nations,
ascribe to the LORD glory and strength.
Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name;
bring an offering and come into his courts.
Worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness;
tremble before him, all the earth.

Say among the nations, 'The LORD reigns.'
The world is firmly established, it cannot be moved;
he will judge the peoples with equity.
Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad;
let the sea resound, and all that is in it;
let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them.
Then all the trees of the forest will sing for joy;
they will sing before the LORD, for he comes,
he comes to judge the earth.
He will judge the world in righteousness
and the peoples in his truth."

Reflection:
Are we prepared to sing a new song to our God and Maker? Are we ready to realize the magnitude of His Glory and to truly hold Almighty God in the awe that He deserves.

He is deserving of praise and worship. Let us talk to Almighty God with reverence and holy fear.

Prayer:
Almighty God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we praise You. You are glorious and worthy of praise. We are thankful for all the works of Your hands, and we praise You for the countless blessings in our lives. Thank You, God, for Your Holy Plan and for sending Jesus as our Savior. "The LORD reigns!" In Jesus' Name. Amen.
