Thirsty for Thankfulness: Day #14
Thirsty for Thankfulness: Day #14
"Be still, and know that I am God..." ~Psalm 46:10
In our stillness we truly have time to reflect. We are finally still enough to have an awareness and a peace to realize not only what is important around us, but also from whom those blessings come.
Our routine:
- Sit down together.
- Enjoy the cup of blessing that can be provided by a good dose of Scripture.
- Stay and linger with our Creator as we reflect on our blessings as revealed in the words we read each day.
- Close with words of prayer to help deepen our relationship with Almighty God.
Scripture:
I Samuel 2:1-3
Background: Hannah had been unable to bear a child. She was publicly praying for a child at the temple; Eli witnessed this. "Eli answered, 'Go in peace, and may the God of Israel grant you what you have asked of him.' She said, 'May your servant find favor in your eyes.'"
Hannah then did have a child, a son; he was named Samuel.
"Then Hannah prayed and said;
'My heart rejoices in the LORD;
in the LORD my horn is lifted high.
My mouth boasts over my enemies,
for I delight in your deliverance.
There is no one holy like the LORD:
there is no one besides you;
there is no Rock like our God.
Do not keep talking so proudly
or let your mouth speak such arrogance,
for the LORD is a God who knows,
and by him deeds are weighed.'"
Psalm 46
"God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.
There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High dwells.
God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.
Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
he lifts his voice, the earth melts.
The LORD Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
Come and see what the LORD has done,
the desolations he has brought on the earth.
He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth;
he breaks the bow and shatters the spear,
he burns the shields with fire.
He says, 'Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.'
The LORD Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress."
Reflection:
God is with us in times of joy; He is also with us in times of trial and in suffering. He loves us and desires that we seek Him out in all situations. He desires that we "be still, and know" that He loves us and is working all things together for good.
Let us take time to be still, and to know. This knowing is the foundation of our faith.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, Great are the works of Your Hands! "There is no one holy like the LORD; there is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God." Let us trust in You. Let us be still, and know. Let us be willing to wait on the blessings that you have in store for us. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
