Thirsty for Thankfulness: Day #16
Thirsty for Thankfulness: Day #16
"Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful." ~ Colossians 4:2
Devote ourselves to prayer. Commit to prayer. Give ourselves up to prayer.
Being watchful and thankful....watchful and thankful.
Our routine:
- Sit down together.
- Enjoy the cup of blessing that can be provided by a good dose of Scripture.
- Stay and linger with our Creator as we reflect on our blessings as revealed in the words we read each day.
- Close with words of prayer to help deepen our relationship with Almighty God.
Scripture:
I Timothy 2:1
"I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone--for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth."
II Timothy 1:7
"For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline."
Psalm 108:1-5
"My heart is steadfast, O God;
I will sing and make music with all my soul.
Awake, harp and lyre!
I will awaken the dawn.
I will praise you, O LORD, among the nations,
I will sing of you among the peoples.
For great is your love, higher than the heavens;
your faithfulness reaches to the skies.
Be exalted, O God, above the heavens,
and let your glory be over all the earth."
Reflection:
- Devote ourselves to prayer.
- Pray for everyone: family, friends, enemies, leaders, people in authority...everyone.
- Be watchful and thankful.
- God's Spirit will help us, and this is a Spirit that is not timid, but bold and full of power and love and self-discipline.
- Our hearts will be fixed on (steadfast) and devoted to God and God's Will.
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We praise You! You are Almighty and Eternal. Lord God, we want to be devoted to You. Help each of us grow in our devotion to You. As our love for You grows, we will be filled with a devotion for others as well. Help us to pray for others, God. Fix our hearts on You, God, and help us to be thankful and live bold lives for Your Glory. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
