Thirsty for Thankfulness: Day #17

         Thirsty for Thankfulness: Day #17

"Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise--the fruit of lips that confess his name. And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased."-Hebrews 13:15-16

When we are not thankful, we are typically consumed with ourselves. When we are thankful, we are willing to think of the source of our many blessings.

When we have a spirit of thankfulness, we will be able and willing to offer sacrifices of praise to God; we may even delight in it.

Our routine:
  • Sit down together.
  • Enjoy the cup of blessing that can be provided by a good dose of Scripture.
  • Stay and linger with our Creator as we reflect on our blessings as revealed in the words we read each day.
  • Close with words of prayer to help deepen our relationship with Almighty God.
Scripture:

Psalm 51:10-12
"Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Do not cast me from your presence
or take your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me."

Psalm 51:15-17
"O Lord, open my lips,
and my mouth will declare your praise.
You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it;
you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit;
a broken and contrite heart,
O God, you will not despise."

Reflection:

We need to close our eyes and take a deep breath. Let's submit to God Almighty and offer Him praise.

We need to take some moments to again count our blessings and take even more moments to acknowledge the source of these blessings.

We need to recognize that the greatest gift we can give to God is ourselves.
Prayer:
Almighty God, we offer ourselves to You, Lord. We submit to Your Will for our lives. Create in each of us a clean heart and accept our lives as sacrifices to You.  We offer to You a sacrifice of praise, Lord God. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
