         Thirsty for Thankfulness: Day #18

"I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh." ~Ezekiel 36:26

Our hearts are key to how thankful we are. We must be aware and in tune to what we are doing to protect our hearts from bitterness and from becoming hardened. 

Our routine: 
  • Sit down together. 
  • Enjoy the cup of blessing that can be provided by a good dose of Scripture. 
  • Stay and linger with our Creator as we reflect on our blessings as revealed in the words we read each day. 
  • Close with words of prayer to help deepen our relationship with Almighty God.
Scripture: 


Luke 6:45
"A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of."

Philippians 4:4-8

This passage has a heading in the NIV that labels the verses as "Final Exhortations." Because of this, I am going to list the verses individually with bullet points, so that we truly "hear" them as exhortations. 

  • "Rejoice in the Lord always.
  • I will say it again: Rejoice!
  • Let your gentleness be evident to all. 
  • The Lord is near. 
  • Do not be anxious about anything, 
  • but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 
  • And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. 
  • Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things. 
Psalm 117
"Praise the LORD, all you nations; extol him, all you people.
For great is his love toward us, 
and the faithfulness of the LORD endures forever. 
Praise the LORD."

Reflection: 

Proverbs 4:23 states, "Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life."

Let us pray today for the condition of our hearts. Let us let the Holy Spirit fill our hearts.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we humbly ask today that You create within each of us a clean heart. We confess that we are sinners. We know Jesus is our Savior and Redeemer. We submit to You and accept the Holy Spirit into our lives. We submit to the Spirit's power and authority in our lives. Help us learn to guard our thoughts and our hearts. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
