Thirsty for Thankfulness: Day #23

           Thirsty for Thankfulness: Day #23

Thankful for God's Son

"For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." ~Isaiah 9:6

Part of being truly thankful is to understand the depth of the plan God has for us. He cares for us physically, mentally, emotionally, but especially, spiritually. We are each blessed spiritually through the gift of Jesus.

Our routine:

  • Sit down together.
  • Enjoy the cup of blessing that can be provided by a good dose of Scripture.
  • Stay and linger with our Creator as we reflect on our blessings as revealed in the words we read each day.
  • Close with words of prayer to help deepen our relationship with Almighty God.
Scripture:

Luke 1:35
"The angel answered, 'The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.'"

Luke 2:11-14
"Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger. Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 'Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.'"

John 1:1-5
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it."

John 1:14
"The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth."

John 14:6
"Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'"

Reflection:

How can we be fully thankful to God the Father if we do not grasp the magnitude of the gift of the Son? Let the beauty of the sacrifice soak in as we strive to understand all that God has given us.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your plan. Thank You for Your Son. We cannot truly grasp the magnitude of the sacrifice. Help us to appreciate all that You have given us in Christ Jesus. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
