Thankful for God’s People

Thanksgiving Proclamation, George Washington, 1789

"By the President of the United States of America. a Proclamation.

Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor—and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me ‘to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness...’”

Our routine: 
  • Sit down together. 
  • Enjoy the cup of blessing that can be provided by a good dose of Scripture. 
  • Stay and linger with our Creator as we reflect on our blessings as revealed in the words we read each day. 
  • Close with words of prayer to help deepen our relationship with Almighty God.

Reflection: 

Yes, we are thankful! Unified as a country, we are taking time to "be still," to congregate with loved ones, and to be thankful. What a powerful, unifying spirit to strive for not only today, but in each day that follows. Let us love and be thankful!

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we are thankful. Let us each take individual time today to personally thank you for each of our blessings. Let us also congregate with loved ones to share our blessings and our thankfulness. God, we thank you. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Thirsty for Thankfulness: 30 Days of Counting Blessings We all can recognize the physical signs of being thirsty. When we have that dry feeling in our mouths, we know, we just know , that our bodies need to replenish our water supply by drinking liquids. If we don't do this, we may soon be suffering other consequences, such as feeling lightheaded.   Thirsty for Thankfulness: Day #1 We have recognized that we are thirsty for some thankfulness in our lives. Now let's see what a difference purposefully satisfying our souls with Scripture can do.  We are going to approach  each of the next 30 days as if we have arranged for a coffee date with a friend.  We will sit down together.  We will enjoy the cup of blessing that can be provided by a good dose of Scripture.   We will stay and linger with our Creator as we reflect on our blessings as revealed in the words we read each day.  We will close with words of prayer to help deepen our relationship with Almighty God.   Thirsty for Thankfulness: Day #2 Welcome back to Day #2! Hopefully, we will establish such a routine of gratitude that we will just continue meeting with God each day long after the 30 days in order to celebrate our blessings.  Keep in mind the routine we are starting to establish (just like sitting down to coffee with a close friend): We will sit down together.  We will enjoy the cup of blessing that can be provided by a good dose of  Scripture.   We will stay and linger with our Creator as we  reflect  on our blessings as revealed in the words we read each day.  We will close with words of  prayer  to help deepen our relationship with Almighty God.
