Thirsty for Thankfulness: Day #29
Thirsty for Thankfulness: Day #29
Thankful for the Word of God
"The grass withers and the flowers fall,
but the word of our God endures forever." ~Isaiah 40:8
How can we maintain our thankfulness far beyond these thirty days? By opening the Bible. Reading and meditating on God's Word provides the attitude of gratitude to develop into a mindset that helps color every situation.
Our routine:
- Sit down together.
- Enjoy the cup of blessing that can be provided by a good dose of Scripture.
- Stay and linger with our Creator as we reflect on our blessings as revealed in the words we read each day.
- Close with words of prayer to help deepen our relationship with Almighty God.
Scripture:
Hebrews 4:12
"For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart."
Psalm 119:105
"Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path."
2 Timothy 3:16-17
"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."
Psalm 56:4
"In God, whose word I praise--in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?"
Proverbs 2:6
"For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding."
Matthew 24:35
"Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away."
Reflection:
The Bible is the ultimate self-help book, but the catch is in order to pick it up and study it, we must be wise enough and humble enough to realize that it isn't "self-help" at all. Meditating on the Word of God requires the humbleness to understand that God is the One providing us with the wisdom through His Word.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we are thankful for Your Word! We submit to You. Help us to line up our behaviors and our attitudes with Your Word. We praise You for giving us this guide for our daily living. In the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
