Thirsty for Thankfulness: Day #3
Thirsty for Thankfulness: Day #3
A rule of thumb when it comes to consuming liquids is that if you are thirsty, you are already at least slightly dehydrated.
This detail is important to us in our spiritual lives as well. Spiritually, we believe everything is fine before we realize that we have actually become parched for Thankfulness. We have quenched the Holy Spirit with our lack of joy and absence of acknowledging the Goodness of God. The solution? Take time in God's Word to refresh ourselves with the sweet affirmations contained within the books of Scripture.
Our routine:
We will sit down together.
We will enjoy the cup of blessing that can be provided by a good dose of Scripture.
We will stay and linger with our Creator as we reflect on our blessings as revealed in the words we read each day.
We will close with words of prayer to help deepen our relationship with Almighty God.
Scripture:
Psalm 1:1-3
"Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers,
but whose delight is in the law of the LORD,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither--
whatever they do prospers."
Psalm 7:17
"I will give thanks to the Lord because of his righteousness;
I will sing the praises of the name of the LORD Most High."
Reflection:
Let us be willing to read, and meditate on, the Holy Word of God. Let us delight in the words of Scripture and let their wisdom be our guide.
If we are willing to meditate on God's word, we will be like the beautiful trees that line a river bank and are constantly nourished by the flowing water.
Part of the fruit that comes from a life nourished with God's Word is revealed in the second passage: Psalm 7:17. The fruit is thankfulness; the fruit is praise.
Have we been thirsty for thankfulness because we have not slowed down to meditate on God's Word? Let us learn to delight in the Bible.
Prayer:
Almighty God, we thank You for who You are. We thank You for all of the magnificent blessings that we see around us. We are thankful for the beauty of the seasons and especially, the majesty of the trees. Lord, teach us to delight in the Bible. Help us to learn to meditate on Your Holy Word. We praise You for Your patience with us, Lord. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
