Thirsty for Thankfulness: Day #4

 Thirsty for Thankfulness: Day #4

An ice-cold glass of lemonade, root beer in a frosty mug, sweet tea with just a twist of lemon. Each of these are so refreshing on a hot summer day.

What do we do when we know our spirit is thirsty for thankfulness? How can we refresh our spirit?

Hopefully, we are able to see the difference God's Word can have when our attitudes have become dry and parched with bitterness. Today's words are certainly as refreshing to the spirit as these drinks can be to the body.

Our routine:
We will sit down together.
We will enjoy the cup of blessing that can be provided by a good dose of Scripture.
We will stay and linger with our Creator as we reflect on our blessings as revealed in the words we read each day.
We will close with words of prayer to help deepen our relationship with Almighty God.

Scripture:

Psalm 19:1-14
"The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge.
They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them.
Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.
In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun.
It is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, like a champion rejoicing to run his course.
It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other;
nothing is deprived of its warmth.

The law of the LORD is perfect, refreshing the soul.
The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple.
The precepts of the LORD are right, giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes.
The fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever.
The decrees of the LORD are firm, and all of them are righteous.

They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold;
they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb.
By them your servant is warned; in keeping them there is great reward.
But who can discern their own errors? Forgive my hidden faults.
Keep your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me.
Then I will be blameless, innocent of great transgression.

May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart
be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer."

I Thessalonians 5:16-18
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."

Reflection:
We don't think we are blessed? Look out at all the wonders in nature.
We are feeling frustrated and overwhelmed? Look into the inspiring words of Scripture.
We are feeling insecure and timid? Pray for confidence and guidance.

Prayer:
Lord God, You are worthy of praise. You bless us with the sun rising and setting each day. You provide the clouds, the wind, and the rain. You surround us with the beauty of nature outdoors and the beauty of Your Holy Word indoors. Father, may our meditation be pleasing to You and may we learn to give thanks continually. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
