       Thirsty for Thankfulness: Day #9

Glorious. Majestic. Righteousness. Gracious. Compassionate. Faithful. Just. Trustworthy.

What an amazing list! These are just a few of the words used to praise God in Psalm 111. How do we learn to be more thankful to God? How do we learn to praise God? 

We just need to read God's Word and we will find numerous examples of people acknowledging God's goodness. Better than that, we just need to learn to watch for God's works in our own lives and then speak to God with own words of genuine gratitude. 

Our routine: 
  • Sit down together. 
  • Enjoy the cup of blessing that can be provided by a good dose of Scripture. 
  • Stay and linger with our Creator as we reflect on our blessings as revealed in the words we read each day. 
  • Close with words of prayer to help deepen our relationship with Almighty God.
Scripture: 

Psalm 111
"Praise the LORD.

I will extol the LORD with all my heart 
in the council of the upright and in the assembly. 

Great are the works of the LORD; 
they are pondered by all who delight in them. 
Glorious and majestic are his deeds, 
and his righteousness endures forever. 
He has caused his wonders to be remembered; 
the LORD is gracious and compassionate. 
He provides food for those who fear him, 
he remembers his covenant forever. 
He has shown his people the power of his works, 
giving them the lands of other nations. 
The works of his hands are faithful and just; 
all his precepts are trustworthy. 
They are steadfast for ever and ever, 
done in faithfulness and uprightness.
He provided redemption for his people; 
he ordained his covenant forever--
holy and awesome is his name. 

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; 
all who follow his precepts have good understanding. 
To him belongs eternal praise."


Reflection: 
God truly is upright, holy, and awesome. 
We need to read over this beautiful Psalm a couple of times in order to pick out each of the characteristics used to describe God Almighty. 

Now, let's sit and reflect on God's work in each of our own lives. We certainly have proof in our lives of God's compassion, and we have encountered God's great work and His majestic deeds. 
Prayer:
Almighty God, we praise You! Great are Your works. We delight in all You have done in our lives. Thank you for being faithful and just. Lord, bring to my attention the work of Your hands. Teach me to see blessings; teach us to speak of Your Greatness. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

When we have that dry feeling in our mouths, we know, we just know , that our bodies need to replenish our water supply by drinking liquids.   Thirsty for Thankfulness: Day #1 We have recognized that we are thirsty for some thankfulness in our lives. Now let's see what a difference purposefully satisfying our souls with Scripture can do.  We are going to approach  each of the next 30 days as if we have arranged for a coffee date with a friend.  We will sit down together.  We will enjoy the cup of blessing that can be provided by a good dose of Scripture.   We will stay and linger with our Creator as we reflect on our blessings as revealed in the words we read each day.  We will close with words of prayer to help deepen our relationship with Almighty God.   Thirsty for Thankfulness: Day #2 Welcome back to Day #2! Hopefully, we will establish such a routine of gratitude that we will just continue meeting with God each day long after the 30 days in order to celebrate our blessings.  Keep in mind the routine we are starting to establish (just like sitting down to coffee with a close friend): We will sit down together.  We will enjoy the cup of blessing that can be provided by a good dose of  Scripture.   We will stay and linger with our Creator as we  reflect  on our blessings as revealed in the words we read each day.  We will close with words of  prayer  to help deepen our relationship with Almighty God.
